Plot Summary

You know that movie where the main character is kind of an idiot, but somehow meets all these famous people throughout American history, and ends up inspiring them to do all this stuff we’ve all seen in the news?

Famous people like The Weathermen, who blew up buildings, and Jim Jones, who started a cult and killed all his followers, or the Unabomber, who carved bombs out of wood? And let’s not forget little Patty Hearst, who grew up to name herself “Tania” and rob banks with the Symbionese Liberation Army.

Oh shoot, which movie am I thinking of? I guess this one!

Background

My entry in the “48 Hour Film Project” for 2005 in San Francisco. Contestants had 48 hours to write, film, and edit a short film, from 7pm Friday to 7pm Sunday. Each film was to include local landmarks, a prop (Kool-ade I think?), a character (Ramona Ramsey, nurse), and a line (“I’m in the mood for something salty!”) in a randomly-determined genre (ours was the nearly impossible “Period Piece/Historical Fiction”).

“Jennifer Gump” won a new award, “Best Pizza Throwing,” for world pizza-throwing champion Tony Gemignani‘s performance. His pizzaria is Pyzano’s, which makes an awesome pizza with hand-thrown dough.

Written by me and award-winning writer Samir Mehta, with awesome period music by William Bajzek of “Sheltering Sky.” This one was a lot darker than my 2003 entry, “Xtremely Xtreme!” I’m particularly proud of how we kept all the characters accurately in the Bay Area in the same time period, with the possible exception of Patty “Tania” Hearst.

Made years and years before “Sweding” was en vogue. Although, technically, this isn’t “Sweding,” since we are not duplicating the script nor shot list of Forrest Gump.

Incidentally, my film company, GhostHouse, was incorporated before Sam Raimi’s production company (also called Ghost House)… but he’s a lot more famous than I am, so I have to come up with a new name now!
