Plot Summary
Even as the dangerous Completely Random Serial Killer stalks the streets, hard-boiled detective Hardwick and her easy-going partner Poltroon are consigned to “Recycle Paperwork Duty.” How will Hardwick get the action she craves? Will Poltroon guide her towards inner peace? A buddy-cop comedy done in the visual style of “Starksy and Hutch.”
Background
Written, directed, and edited by my good friend Digant “diggy” Kasundra, who is in my opinion a comedic genius.
We had a bit more resources this time, but it was still a pretty lightweight production. Sony XDCAM cameras, and a rented room at Fort Mason for the police office. That’s it. I guess the kitty litter and ice cream cones count as a production expense (in the first scene). The stuffed cows were borrowed.
The especially observant/neurotic may notice that the house of the Completely Random Serial Killer is the same house we used in “Cursed.” This is because it belongs to Sharon, who was diggy’s Assistant Director/Acting Coach on both these movies. Her Emmy-award winning husband… loaned us his Emmy. You can see it in the upper left when the detectives are under siege in the bedroom. That is an actual Emmy!
Winner of the Scary Cow Showcase 7, which screened at the Castro Theater on February 7th, 2009. As I mentioned elsewhere, the only real competition for S is for Psycho was another film called “die Mekaniks,” a film which had something like between ten times and twenty times our budget. Those guys rented a bus, rented the Palace of Fine Arts, an entire theater, and had a hellish drive to the desert that they ruefully told us about at the afterparty over drinks. Good work guys!
