Plot Summary
Remember that reality show where they all lived in a house together? And they had to do stupid stunts to compete with each other? And all the contestants were sexy and dumb?
Remember when something went horribly wrong on the show? And there was that big cover-up? And it ruined everyone’s careers afterwards?
I wonder what happened to all those people.
Background
Written by me and playwright Benjamin Hardie, with music by Tom McClure of “Firme,” who also recorded all the music in the 48 hour time period. Guest vocals by children’s book author Emily Jiang.
This was my entry in the “48 Hour Film Project” for 2003 in San Francisco. Contestants had 48 hours to write, film, and edit a short film, from 7pm Friday to 7pm Sunday. Each film was to include local landmarks, a prop (a record), a character (Hugh Simon, bouncer), and a line (“I was lied to, and very much deceived!”) in a randomly-determined genre (ours was “Mockumentary”). “Xtremely Xtreme” won “Best Use of Character.”
Reality Shows are not going away. Back in 2003 they were fairly new to the US audience, but as an avid Japanese TV watcher, I knew they’d take over everything.
Incidentally, my film company, GhostHouse, was incorporated before Sam Raimi’s production company (also called Ghost House)… but he’s a lot more famous than I am, so I have to come up with a new name now!
